ProSeva ProSeva

About

Professional skills, selfless service.

ProSeva is one person's answer to a simple observation: the people who most need good digital work are the ones least able to pay for it. So the work is given. Same standard as paid work, same person doing it, no fee, and everything owned by you.

The name

Pro is for professional: the standard of the work, and the fact that it is the same work I am paid for elsewhere. Seva is service given without wanting anything back. Put together, it is a promise about both the quality and the price.

It is not a charity that asks you for money. It is a professional who gives you his time.

What ProSeva is

One person, giving away part of what he does for a living.

I have spent close to twenty years building software, securing systems and advising founders. That remains my paid work. ProSeva is a fixed share of my time set aside for those who serve, and this website is how they find it.

One person

No team, no agency, no volunteer pool. The person who reads your request writes the code and hands it over. Meet him.

Given, not sold

No fee for the work or for the tools I host. Only real third-party costs, like a domain name, and those are paid by you in your own name so you own them.

Everything an agency does

Websites, being found, content, trust, ready-to-use tools, applications, cloud, measurement. Not a cut-down version. See the full list.

Yours from day one

Domains, hosting, accounts and code in your name, on plain standard technology, documented, so any developer can take over after me.

Open to requests, and by invitation

Anyone who serves can ask. I also invite organisations I come across. Either way, one person reads it and replies within two days. How it works.

Small by design

A few engagements at a time, finished properly. "Not yet" is a normal answer, and it is about my hours, not your work.

What ProSeva is not

Four things people assume, and why each one is wrong.

Not a charity asking for money

ProSeva does not collect donations, run campaigns or have a bank account for the public. I do not need your money. I need your ten minutes on the get started form if your work serves others.

Not an agency with a discount

There is no paid tier, no upsell, and no point at which a bill appears. Nor is this a way to hire me. Paid work has its own place, and I keep the two strictly apart.

Not a marketplace or a volunteer platform

I do not match organisations with professionals, and I am not taking on contributors. If you are a professional who wants to give your skills, start in your own name with one organisation near you. That is how this began.

Not a membership

There is nothing to join, no fee, no badge and no annual renewal. An approved request gets you access to the console for your work. When the work is handed over, you owe nothing and are tied to nothing.

How I work

Four commitments I hold myself to.

01

Say no honestly

If I cannot do something well, or do not have the time, I say so, and where possible point you to someone who can.

02

Build to last

Plain, well-documented, standard technology that the next person can maintain without me.

03

Leave nothing hostage

Domains, hosting, accounts and code in your name. You can walk away at any point and lose nothing.

04

Promise no outcomes

I do not guarantee rankings, traffic or donations. I show you the direction of change, truthfully.

These are not marketing lines. They are the rules that make a one-person seva safe for the organisations that rely on it.

Why one person, and who he is

Common questions

About ProSeva itself.

Something else? Write to me

Is ProSeva a registered organisation?

No. It is a person, not an entity. There is nothing to register because nothing is bought or sold and no money is collected. The work is given directly, and everything built belongs to the organisation that receives it.

Why do this free instead of charging a low fee?

Because a fee, however low, changes the relationship. It turns seva into a transaction and makes me a vendor. It also excludes exactly the people this is for: the groups with no budget at all. I earn my living elsewhere. This part is given.

How is this sustainable if it is one person?

By keeping it small and finishing what I start. I take a few engagements at a time, and everything is built so it does not need me afterwards. The ready-to-use tools are shared, so one piece of maintenance serves many organisations. If I ever stop, nothing anyone relies on breaks.

What does the console do?

It is the private space at console.proseva.org where approved organisations see their plan, progress, decisions and documents. You get access when a request is approved. It is how we both remember what we agreed and how you see the work without having to ask.

Can we mention ProSeva on our website?

You may, and you need not. Nothing I build carries a ProSeva badge unless you want one. If you do want to mention it, a plain line such as "website built as seva by ProSeva" is enough. What matters is that the site is yours.
